Hi all,

Along with two mooses, I also have a flock of Twitter Budgies! You can see them over at http://www.twitterbudgie.com .

Anywhos, a few weeks ago, one of my Twitter Budgies started developing an eye infection. Got antibiotics, eye drops, etc., - nothing seemed to help. Every day I'd press out the pus and give her the medicines, but every day, her eye would get worse and worse.

Yesterday, Mathias' eye was just about completely popped out of the socket (so her eyeball was right on the side of her face). Now, it's been obvious to me for several weeks that she became blind on that side...but she kept on doing her little birdie thingees (flying (my birdies are uncaged), eating, preening, being your typical budgie except with her eyeball outside of her eye socket).

I was angsting over her quality of life but if her lack of an operational eye didn't bother her, so....who was I to decree, you don't enjoy life? Thus...I've just been hoping she'd turn the corner. I thought about surgery as well to remove the eye, but didn't know if her constitution was strong enough to handle such a thing.

Well, this morning...the eye has receded back into the socket (yay!) and she can close her eye almost halfway (more yay!). The swelling seems to be going down as well (tons of yays!).

Budgies are one tough breed of birdies!! And it looks like now....things are finally heading in the positive direction for a recovery. I do keep reminding myself, she can relapse at a moments' notice, but hey...today has been the best day for QUITE awhile.

Yay!

I am glad for you and the little bird. I hate to see any creature in pain.

Glad your budgie is improving!! Sounds like it will get along just fine if it doesn't have sight.
