Le sigh. I've given up ever being able to go to the bathroom when I want to and being able to sit on a dry seat ever again. Nikita discovered the wonders of the magical porcelain goddess a few weeks ago and now will not drink her fresh water due to her preference to toilet water. And no keeping the seat lids down will not work because A: the SO already puts the seat down, I don't think he can handle the additional task of putting the lid down as well, he can't even remember to keep the bathroom door shut (kitten currently likes to defecate and deface our guest tub (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) ) and B: She's figured out how to lift the lid on her own anyway to get her water. I wouldn't mind so much except that she is the sloppiest drinker and dribbles water EVERYWHERE. Not to mention she ALWAYS has to take a long drink RIGHT before I head to the bathroom. Who needs kids? I already have a line to the bathroom! ALL of our animals prefer to drink out of the toilet instead of their freshwater for whatever reason, but at least they never dribbled on the toilet seat (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Same thing at our house (minus the cats). I now have the cleanest bowl in two counties: I scrub the bowl at least once a day and wipe the seat every time I need to use it. It is useless to try and keep them from it as they ALWAYS find a way!

Thier water bowls are stainless steel... I wonder if getting them ceramic water dishes would keep them in the kitchen instead of the bathroom?

I can't give you much hope regarding the ceramic water bowls because that's what ours are, but you never know! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) I got one of those....my Eddie. He lifts the lid all by himself and then I hear a big CLUNK as it slams shut! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

One of my fondest memories of sisters Gypsy and Loo was them playing dig-dig in the toilet once they discovered it had water in it.

Nikita, it sounds like using the public toilet at the movie theater. Beth, they make self closing lids.

My guys love to drink cool running water. They have never shown any interest in the toilet. They always drink the most while we fill their large water bowl with fresh water.

The house I will be moving into has several natural springs. I was thinking of pumping what's not needed for drinking water through a nice size fountain, and then allowing it to drain into the fish pond. This would allow them to drink and swim in cool water all year long.

Something like this but not as fancy.

My sister had the same problem with her dogs drinking out of the toilet. She ended up getting a childproof device that prevented young kids to lift the toilet seat. It worked.

There is an adorable little toilet drinking bowl for dogs. Maybe your dogs will like it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Go to

At the risk of giving too much information, I was in the bathroom the other day, using it for it's intended purpose when Chinook pushed open the door and seemed thouroughly surprised to see me there. Her ears dropped a little, she stuck out her tongue and turned her head as if to say:

"MUST you pee in my water bowl?"

Good topic. I thought I was the only one with the problem. Since I'm a guy who doesn't like to clean my bowl is cleaned daily. My ex would be so proud of me.

Loki and Titan (when he was still mobile) used it all the time, I think the water is always cold and fresh.

Put a child safety gate in the door way? Prob a bit annoying but they won't be able to get in the toilet then.

Nanuq will also drink out of the toilet bowl the odd time but I close the lid and he does not bother with it then so gues we are lucky.
