I took Misty to the vets today to be put to sleep. She has gone to heaven to join hers and my mum, and also her little friend Gypsy the fox terrier.

I really tried to keep her going in mums memory, but it wasnt' to be, When mum died suddenly in February, Misty became mine and she was a huge part of our pack.

2 years ago she let me and dogs move in to her house to look after mum, and I was so lucky that misty and the dogs had always got along. She thought she was one of the "big kids" and had to be whereever they were - including under the table at dinner time,. She kept them in line with a swipe when they needed it and often just to remind them that this was really her house.

The dogs and misty always greeted each other with a kiss or a rub when they had been apart for a few hours. I was also so thankful that 2 malamutes and a cat could live in harmony.

She had deteriorated in the last two days and yesterday did not eat. Today i spent the morning carrying her around, she was so lifeless and i knew it was getting so close to her passing, but she wouldn't give up, i really hoped she would fall asleep and cross the bridge in my arms but she just wouldn't let go. Her body functions were shutting down but she just kept breathing so slowly.

The wound from the rat bite was healed, and the vitamin k injections were helping her blood to clot again. The vet had been happy that she was recovering well. The last two days one her eyes has been getting worse and today the vet said the pupil and eye wasn't working. She did originally go to the vet due to her third eye lid closing a little - it was a sign the cat was sick, but the vet could find no reason then for it, but she was put on antibiotics to heal whatever might be wrong. He said he never suspected a tumour or anything nurological at that point as her eye was still reacting to his tests. It was maybe a week after that that the rat bite happened.

He is very sure she had either a brain tumour which old cats can get, or maybe a brain bleed hemorage either from that, or maybe it had been caused from the poison and the clotting problem. He said it was absolutely the right decision today as yet more meds were just prolonging things.

he also said it was best i had taken her in for the injection just incase she had a seizure or body stress at the end, which would have been unpleasant for me to have to watch if i was home alone with her.

That little girl might have missed her mum more than I knew, she was certainly a huge comfort to me and i was proud to be looking after her for my mum,.

Rest in peace misty, you have crossed the bridge, and i am sure mum and gypsy and cass were right there to greet you. Gypsy and Cass have tributes on the wildpaws site and now Misty does too. Love you all.

When i drove into the driveway after the vets the dogs were howling. they were inside and didn't hear me because it is raining heavy. It was a such a sad howl and they were singing up a storm. I guess it was for Misty. They had each said goodbye to her when we left and their expressions and flat ears meant they knew i am sure, that they wouldn't see her on this side of the bridge again.

Thank you misty for letting me be your special aunty.

Oh, man... what a sad day here on the board. I was really rooting for the poor girl, I'm sorry she lost her fight. I know you and the pups will miss her something awful.

Oh Robin I'm so sorry to hear... thought she was going to pull through for you. She's with your mum now and I am sure they are happy to be back together. Sounds like she was a neat kitty with a big personality to keep those Mals in line - I'm sure she found her way to those she loved...

Hugs to you and the fuzz butts - I am sure they miss her as well

Robin what a sad story. I am so sorry to hear about Misty. Your dogs seemed to have a close bond with Misty and knew it was her time to go with their goodbye song. Misty will be happy snuggled up in your mums arms again. Hugs to you and your fur family.

Incredibly sad, Robin. You've had a tough go of it since your Mom passed. Such a wonderful tribute your mals gave to Misty. Give them a hug from me. I know they mean the world to you.

Now Misty...go find your Mum (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
