Okay - I feel totally redundant here - but LOVE LOVE LOVE my Dyson Animal. I have used up and destroyed many other vaccums all while composing songs about my unending dream of one day owning a dyson. And it has been so worth every penny (actually it was a gift (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) )

We've had the Kenmore Progressive Upright Vacuum with Inteli-Clean for almost 2 years now (with bags). Love it! We have all hardwood and it works great. We also have a Roomba we run daily. Now with the Roomba, I find myself using just the hose attachment more often on the Kenmore so next time I may get a canister so its easier to haul around. (Thought the Kenmore doesn't look like it's going to give out anytime soon (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif))

Ok I have a Wertheim (not sure if you can get them in the states) but I find it excellent. I don't know how I manage before.
It is definatley better then a Kirby G4 (sorry Mecha), I have mum's at the moment while mine is being serviced and it just doesn't do a good enough job. I have also had a Rainbow, not bad but a pain in the butt having to put water in the cannister all the time. It really depends on what you like I think and how much you want to spend. -------------------- Karen

When I met my hubby, Jim, in April 1996 he owned a Bissell Plus removable canister vacuum that he had for his first mal, Kodi. It's still running like a champ and I buy bags when it's buy 2-get 1 package free. I do routine maintenance on it like cleaning the beater bar and replacing the belts but otherwise, it's been great.
BTW...Mom-in-law gave us their old Dyson recently and it's sitting in the basement unused cause when I used it a few times, it made the house smell nasty! And two different vacuum repair guys told me they see Dysons a lot come in for repairs. -------------------- Judy, Shasta, Boo-Boo & Jim (and Kodi 7/95-9/07)

I have a Meile canister, eight years old. It has a powerhead on demand and sucks up those dust puppies whether on the rug or the wood floor. I often do the car with it because it works better than the Shop Vac.

For a smelly dyson...try cleaning the filter. If that doesn't work...spinkle baking soda and vacuum that up and that takes care of some of the smell. My other trick is to throw a dryer sheet on the inside of the cannister.

I never said Kirby was the best, but I do think it's better than these 95% plastic things you find in the big box stores. If your kirby isn't doing too well, it probably needs some maintenance. We change the belt with every bag change. The belts are really cheap I usually get a free belt with every bag anyway. It also has a fan in there that could be damaged too. It's hard to say without seeing it in action. I can't really judge a Wertheim since I have never seen one. It looks similar to a shop vac in the pictures I found. |

Dyson all the way baby.... I have tried kirby, hoover, eureka, and Dyson is the tool malamute owners need. It is easy to use, clean, empty, and I love purple! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

thanks for all the info, I went to a local vacuum retailer last night and was all set on a dyson animal... The guy there told me to check out the simplicity symmetry, He did a little demo of both machines with animal fur type stuff he threw on some demo carpets, bottom line the vacuum was 100$ less and picked up more of the hair with one swipe consistently. So I ended up getting it and I'm loving it so far. I'm also a firm believer in you get what you pay for so I'm nervous it will blow up or something cause it works to damn good! Awesome! Right now we have a bagless and an ancient Kirby. I'd love to get a Dyson one day, but now I might have to look that instead!
